Report showing nodes down for a specified time window

Hi all,

sorry if this has been answered already. I have been searching and have not managed to find examples of a report that will include a list of devices that have been in a down state for 30 days or more.

I can only generate a report which includes nodes that have been in a down state in the last 30 days. Not quite the same.

I dont seem to be able to find a field which specifies the last time that the node was seen. Maybe if there is such a field I can attempt to use it when applying filters to the report.

Any help appreciated guys!

Hey William,

thanks for the post. I've been working on this and have built a report which basicaly shows nodes listed by thier Average Availability in the last 30 days.

This enables me to identify nodes that have an Average Availability of 0% (at the top of the list) in the last 30 days.

I then just filter out nodes have a status of UP or Unmanaged. I then only show the top 20 records and this suits me fine.

Its not perfect, but it tells me what i need to know.

Hi Mario-

I'm not seeing where you can do that with a report in Report Writer. Someone in the community may have a workaround.

I know you can customize charts and by doing so, you might be able to display that information. See the "Custom Node Charts" section (physcial page 69) of the Orion NPM Administrator Guide for more information.

Is there a way to generate a report that counts the number "down" alerts received on a particule device or a list of devices? I imagine this might be available in a more customized SQL query, but I'm not a SQL guy.

And is there a way to show the overall availability of the network at the top of the report in a seperate section? For instance I have a list of devices with each them showing their availability over a period of time, and I'd like a seperate section (with a horizontal line between) that shows the overall availability average for everything.

I have tried a few things. Namely selecting records with an Average downtime of 0% going back 30 days. Unfortunately that is misleading as it only lists devices that have had an Average Downtime of 0% in the last 30 days. It still lists records that are up or have been up in the last 30 days.

A bit of background might help.

This report is for our remote site CE routers. A lot of the sites are on temporary power so routers are turned on and off over night and when they are not used.

So I need a report which can list routers that have not been reachable for a period of 30 days.

Unfortunately, i cannot see a field selectable which lists the last time that the node was contactable. Thats quite annoying as i would imagain that a lot of different reports can be generated using that kind of information.

I am testing a report which uses the last recorded router system clock. The only problem with that is that each time I want to run the report, i'll have to manually change the filter condition date rather than being able to say:

"if the router's system clock is older than 30 days, select the record"

The quest goes on...

Good morning. It sounds like we are both trying the same things to get to the end result you describe. I reached the point yesterday where I realized that if I knew more about SQL Queries I could throw this together rather quickly because much like you I found that the logic is simple but the limitations of the existing fields is what is getting in our way.

I found another post (opened today) that is asking for Availability Reports of Interfaces rather than nodes. There are some really good SQL statements in there that could probably be modified to do what you want, but I've never used a custom SQL query in this tool yet (that's about to change I think) so I'm not sure where to start.

Take a look at that and see if you can make heads or tails of it. I've done a little SQL in college, but it's been a while. I will dig through the Admin Guide a little to and see if we can make it work for what you/we need.
