Unable to Add Vendor Name

I have approx 100 nodes showing as Unknown when i sort by Vendor Name..I want to edit that specific field and add the correct info for the devices. However when i look to edit the vendor field the system will not let me.. i tried to create a custom field but it said that Vendor already exists.. has anyone run across this and if so do you have a quick fix or a resolve for the issue.. all help would be appreciated..

It was a few years ago but I created a Vendor custom property and then wrote a SQL script to copy all Vendors from the original to the custom property excluding any listed as unknown and then had this run on a regular basis. Sure it was a workaround but it suited my needs.

By default the Vendor is already exist . if your nodes are not SNMP enabled it will fall into Unknown category.

you can un hide Vendor in custom properties to group your nodes .

Open Custom Properties

File > Settings >

check " Vendor " and it will show you should be able to manually enter the vendor name here for each node.

ah, got too excited. I thought you meant it would show up and allow me to edit when I selected "edit custom properties".

that is not the case.

This has long been a request to be able to update these - for ICMP nodes if nothing else.

Thank You all for your responses.. i am looking to be able to edit the Vendor field and from what i gather it is a locked field ie unable to edit.. I will just hope for Solarwinds to make that function available in the future.. it sure would male things alot easier...

I'll second that, and I would LOVE to be able to edit the location as well!

It is actually possible to change the Built-in Vendor field though the SWQL interface.

Install and open SWQL studio and navigate to the Orion.Nodes endpoint. Launch a query similar to this:

SELECT TOP 1000 NodeID, Caption, Uri, Vendor, MachineType
FROM Orion.Nodes
WHERE Caption LIKE 'nodexxx%'
--WHERE Vendor = 'Unknown'
--ORDER BY Vendor DESC

Then Right click on the Orion.Nodes endpoint and choose Update.
In the Uri Field paste the URI of the node you want to edit.
Now fill the MachineType and Vendor fields with the desired values.
Click the Update button at the bottom of the form.
