Management Link Size

Has anyone got any tools or documentation on how to size a management link when Solarwinds is used to manage devices remotely ( that is one link into a single site housing all the devices ). Assuming just default ping and SNMP timers, with no other application management required.

So 1000 nodes to start with but this could go up to 3000 or 4000. What I’m trying to do is find a tool or doco that allows us to work out the bandwidth required for varying amounts of nodes. So maybe 1 node requires xbps, therefore 1000 nodes requires 1000 times that.

It does depend a lot on what aspects of the node you are monitoring, if you are just doing SNMP as you say, you should be fine on a minimal internet link, i've monitored estates all over the world via a 1Mb internet connection. Which modules of solarwinds are you using?

I'm sure you know that a little monitoring requires less bandwidth than a lot of monitoring. You can always set SNMP traffic in QoS to be low priority and control the traffic with your firewall if you have one. So if you are worried about your primary services working correctly SNMP won't get in the way.
