planned downtime for node
tucdemonic
Is there a way to set a planned downtime for a node so that you wont get an alert. We sometimes have routers being maintained on off hours and do not want to have messages sent out durring that time. In 8.0.2 is there a way to do this?

If you are using the Advanced alerts you can can set the time of day and day of week you don't want to be alerted.

I know that part but I am trying to do it like a one time planned downtime so that I dont get the alert for one day out of the month but I do get one all other days and that day could be changing every month, kind of like a pre-acknowlegement of the downtime.

Sorry. Nothing in Orion 8 that will help you with that problem. It's more then just a little crude but you could always stop the Advanced Alerting Engine service before beginning your maintenance.

but the problem with that is that it will stop monitoring all other machines which is not something I want to happen. I will have to experiment with it. though I would say that this wold be a feature to add in.

I'm not sure why this escaped me but you can put the node into an unmanaged state. Right click on any node - "Node Details" - "UnManage". Enter a time and date of when the node should become managed again. What is nice is you don't have to remember to go back into Orion to re-manage the device.
If you have advanced alerts configured for things that could be triggered during your maintenance event on this node create an alert suppression that looks like...
Suppress Alert when
all
of the following apply
Node Status
is equal to
Unmanaged
With this set your alerts should not be triggered when the node is unmanaged. I hope this helps.

Only one problem found in testing. when the machine comes back from unmanaged state to managed state if the machine is not back online the machine will not change from unmanaged to managed status, which means that the alert that "this machine is past its unmanaged time and still down" does not work... maybe a bug?

Hmm... sounds like a bug to me. Try giving support a call and post your findings.
