Incorrect Volume-Names (Mountpoints) with SNMP

Hi all,

how do you monitor your AIX Volumes?

If we configure an AIX node with standard IBM-SNMPv3 deamon, we´ve these Volume-Summery:

Under VOLUME we have the discname and not volumename. The volumename for the frist entry is "/home".

How do you get the volumenames for you AIX servers?

UnDP have the following issue: you can only set thresholds for a poller and not for the node and the poller.

So we can´t use the UnDP in that case.

We urgently need your solutions :-)

This is all a limitation of the standard net-snmp daemon, i've known people who heavily modified their net-snmp with extended OID's and others who use ssh scripts to parse the values that they needed, but ultimately there isn't much you can do right now to get AIX's to report the desired volume metrics via snmp.  This same problem was why Solarwinds ended up creating their own agent for linux machines in the last few months.  I would expect that with enough requests from users they could potentially port that agent to AIX, see this feature request
