User tracking vs Network discovery

Hello,

Can someone explain me the best way to get user tracking working.

As I understand it, I need to do Network discovery to get needed information but it seems that ND import all interfaces again (you can choos UP, DOWN, etc..).

I'm not sure I want that. I have a lot of ports configured as unpluggable and I don't want to break everything.

Is there a way to scan devices so that user tracking and network mapping work WITHOUT reimporting ports and stuff like that ?

When you rescan, you only need to import one single element, a node, volume etc and the topology DB will be updated. When you try to import it, you will get a message that element already exists in the DB and does not change any of it's setting etc.

thank for the answer. I did a full discovery scan the way you told me.

I'm monitoring about 100 cisco switches. Is there something special or best practices to get it 100 % working ?

Everytime I seach a MAC address, I get no results. The only results I can have is if I search the mac address of a monitored switch . If I do a computer/server search : "No results were found that match your query."

I did some tests again and it doesn't work very well.

I'm scanning switches with Network discovery, I only import one thing as said above.

When I search for Mac address I always get : No results were found that match your query.

Only thing that work is searching for IP/MAC of switches.

by the way, I tried another software (Netdisco) and it seems to work fine, so I assume it's not a cisco config problem

Is it only working for some devices and not for others? For the other devices, do they have the bridge mib enabled?
