Custom MIB/ Poller Status - No Data

Hi,

I have added a Custom Poller to poll my APC UPS for upsBasicBatteryStatus, I have run the Test and it works fine.

But when viewing the Custom Poller Status on the Orion Web page it reports No Data.

I have assigned the Poller to the UPS, but nothing. Any ideas?

Craig,

You said that you successfully ran the test from the System Manager. After doing that, which "Custom Poller Status" resource did you choose on the Orion website? The best one for testing/debugging your configuration is from the "Node Detail Reports" group, since it requires no configuration.

ON the ACP Smartups 5000 that I'm testing it with it works fine as long as I use a "Get Next" request I get nothing on any "Get" requests, it's always "NoData" despite the fact that I get the proper vaules from the "test" button. So make sure it's set to "get next"

I also have it set to
MIB value type: RawValue
and Type of : Enumeration

I set up the custom mib poller on my vpn routers and 1 of 6 gives me the same no data. I have been trying to figure this out all day. I can test fine but no data on the Custom Poller Status.

Yep,
We are using a Symmetra 16000, its set to Get Next, OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.2.1.1, test works fine, Raw Value, Enumeration, Keep Real-time and Historical Stats.

and the website reports "No Data" Odd. I sent an email to support so I will see what they say.

We are aware of this problem using SNMP Get with custom MIB pollers. A fix should be available shortly.

I have a similar issue,
I am custom polling 1.3.6.1.2.1.6.9 to determine # of TCP connections established.
The test returns results, but I cannot see my data in the custom chart view under node details.
I was not sure what the MIB value type was, I selected "Counter".
I set the Unit to "socket", and timeframe to be per second.

I checked and my custom poller service is running, and the poller is enabled and assigned to the resource.

I made some progress, when I ran the database nightly job it seemed to clear something up, and now my data is collecting.

I cannot though figure out what MIB Value type I need to collect.
The data I am collecting is The total # of TCP sockets at a givent time.

I figured that should be a "counter" with "timeframe" set to none, but that does not plot anything. When I set the timeframe to some value, I get very strange results. What "Mib" type should I choose if I want to graph an absolute value.

I also had this type of problem but I changed the type to TEXT and things are working fine.

So the "Second Screen" has the following
MIB Value Type: Raw Value
Type: Text

With "Keep Real-time and Historical Stats" is Checked.

Thisis working for APC Batt temp, Load, Output volt, Output Current

Can you run the query below on your database manager, note the CustomPollerLastStatisticsPoll time for the node in question, wait for the number of minutes that is double the value in the StatCollection column for that node and run the query again?

If the CustomPollerLastStatisticsPoll value is not getting updated then the node is not being serviced for custom pollers. If the value is getting updated the node is being serviced and we need to look further at the SNMP request and response.

Bob557,

Using a Counter with a timeframe of None would give you the total sockets since the last poll. Using a RawValue with a type of None will give you the current absolute total. Either way you need to keep both real time and historical statistics to graph.

I am having the same problem as craig999. I added a custom poller for a temp probe with two sensors. The MIB for sensor 1 is 1.3.6.1.4.1.13045.1.1.2.3.1.4.1 the MIB for sensor 2 1.3.6.1.4.1.13045.1.1.2.3.1.4.2. If I use SNMP GET when I test both MIBS I get the correct value- of let's say 68, but on the web site it gives a value of 0. (this is the same for both sensors)
I ran the SQL query and the time is getting updated.
If I use SNMP GET NEXT and use the MIB 1.3.6.1.4.1.13045.1.1.2.3.1.4 I can get the value of the first temp probe without any problems on the test and the web site.

Sounds like you are having a problem that we fixed in 8.0.1 that was released earlier this week. Try upgrading and see if the SNMP Get requests start working correctly for you.

I ran the SQL Query and the time is not changing. Its set on the 3/1/2006.

What would cause this?

Also, for some reason we are not able to assign any custom mib pollers to any nodes anymore. I highlight the node, select the assign button, it moves to the right hand side, i click OK, go back to ensure its assigned, and its not there.

We are seeing this on some of our assigned nodes to custom MIBs. A few of them are collecting data while a few others show no data. Tests done are all successful.

It appears the custom mib poller doesn't scale well. I assigned the example ciscoEnvMonTemperatureStatusValue mib to 5-10 routers and it seemed to work fine but when i added all 50 of my routers I started getting no data as well.

Both of your issues appear to be related. Craig999, your dates are not changing because the Custom poller is ignoring those nodes. ckore you have nodes that are being ignored in favor of other nodes. This is an issue we are currently looking at.

I am also seeing the same "no data" problem. All works great when using the "test" button in system manager but "no data" is being reporting in the web interface of Orion. I'm also running 8.0.1 and am happy to work with support to troubleshoot the problem further. I can do packet captures if that is helpful etc

I have a case open with SW on this issue, though to be perfectly honest I haven't heard anything back from them. My case# is 2419 if anyone wants to reference it when they call and get the stock answer from 1st level support that they have never heard of this issue before (like I was told).

I ran some packet captures and noticed that for the nodes that are reporting "no data" there is the usual Orion ICMP/SNMP traffic, SNMP gets such as “ifOperStatus”, “ifLastChange”, “sysUpTime” and “ifDescr” etc. but no sign of any of the custom MIB OIDs that I have defined in the Custom MIB Poller.

I am willing to work with support on this issue day or night but they have to be willing to call/email me.

We are looking into this issue and looking at 2 things:
1) How do we fix it
2) Is there anything we can tell you to tweak to get this working until we can get it fixed, tested, and distributed.

Just wanted to add my confirmation.

I am seeing the same thing. Everything looks good when pressing the Test button, but no data showing in the web interface.

I have attempted to setup the Custom MIB Poller for several flavors of Cisco routers, Netbotz, and Network Appliance systems. All with the same 'no data' result.

Just to let you know I also am having trouble custom polling. Same sort of thing test polling works, standard polling works, custom polling does not work. I sem to have the problem this devices that are connected over a WAN. But these devices work with normal polling (interface, cpu, etc), also these devices work fine with MRTG.
