VMWare ESXi Standard Lockdown and Solarwinds NPM

I am having an issue and would like some help.

Simply put, I am just using some of the SolarWinds virtualization settings that are built into the network performance monitor.

We tried turning on standard lockdown mode on a cluster. The performance monitoring is completely broken when lockdown is on and was wondering if there was something i could do to fix that or is this to work as intended.

Before you ask, Yes I am positive the root password is correct because it all works when I take it out of lockdown. We do have exception users setup as well and none of them work either.

I knew lockdown would shut off quite a bit but also though the root account and others specified in exception lists would bypass that restriction.

Has anyone tried this or can give some guidance on getting this to work?

Is this cluster in vcenter and are you polling through that vcenter or hitting the hosts directly? It would appear from the vmware documentation that vcenter based polling should still be available via the VMware API as long as the account you use is in the exceptions and has appropriate permissions, but I don't know if there is anything in the Orion code that tells it to just skip over locked down hosts.

We were going directly to the host. We will look into the vcenter polling. I think its another license is why we were not doing it.

Not sure what you mean by another license, but assuming you have a vcenter then orion can poll that with any NPM or SAM license and it just counts as a single node same as any other IP. VMAN is separate and gets you additional details, but nearly anything you see by polling the hosts directly is available in the built in VIM monitoring that is included with NPM/SAM
