Interface Traffic Detail

Trying to clarify something. When looking at the interface tracking detail I see 9 entries for each interface for each polling interval. My polling intervals for interface statistics collection are every 9 minutes. Does this mean I am querying the router and receiving detail stats for each minute within that 9 minute interval?

We are working on exporting our detailed stats nightly for key interfaces into our capacity planning system so we can retain this data outside of SW but still report on it as needed.

Hi Mike,

If you have the statistics polling set for 9 minutes then we only poll once every 9 minutes. I think the TimeDate stamp format is misleading in the view you show. Can you go to the interface detail page for the interface in question and click Edit on the Min/Max/avg pbs in/out chart. Then change the time period to Last Hour and the sample interval to Every Minute. The click Submit. From there click on the View Options pulldown and choose View Chart Data. It should show the polling each nine minutes with blank rows where there is no polling.

Just to confirm. You are seeing 9 interface detail statistics on a single InterfaceID for the same date/time?

If the Interface Statistics Polling is every 9 mins, you should only see 1 row of statistics at 9 mins interval.

There is a change that the Interface itself is set to collect statistics per minute.

Run the following query to confirm:

SELECT StatCollection FROM Interfaces WHERE InterfaceID = __

* Fill __ with the InterfaceID

That results in a 9.

Here is what I'm seeing when I look at the traffic detail however I removed the device and interface name from this data. Notice all 9 results differ by less than 1 second.

Hi Mike,

best tool for this is solarwinds NTA, with that you can get more detail reports. NTA collect and report traffic stats real time. But keep one thing in you mind,, CPU load.

Neil, I'm not looking for the actual traffic (I have a separate tool for that). I'm simply wondering why for 1 polling interval I have 9 data points.
