Pointing APE to different management and DB server

Question

Hi,

We have multiple management and SolarWinds DB servers and are in different network. I am planning to consolidate some of the instances. I need clarity on below.

Consider currently one APE is pointed to management server called “A” and DB server called “X” and discovered some of the nodes in NPM,NTA and NCM module.

Can I point the same APE to different management server called “B” and DB server called “Y”?

Is there any constraint in doing this? After pointing it to new management and DB server do I need to again rediscover the devices?

Note: I am not bothered about old data and all the SolarWinds instances will be latest versions with NPM,NTA and NCM modules.

Hi there ckumarb​,

I believe you need to migrate all the polling off the APE, then delete it.

I have had a quick look at my system and i couldn't see a way of removing the APE, but then I found this - Delete polling engines

But after reading up on Manage Orion Polling Engines , I am guessing that as the installation involves the configuration stage and that your license is probably still tied up (despite the APE being deleted), so that you will need to get onto your customer portal to release the license key (or request support) and then re-install the APE, pointing it at the new Orion server when you re-install.
