Alert on device configuration change?

Is it possible in Orion 8.5.1 or 9 to alert if a device (Cisco particularly) configuration changes? If so how?

That is correct.  Realtime Change Detection was actually available in v4 (see http://www.solarwinds.com/products/cirrus/network_config_change_management.aspx).   With v5, you'll be able to leverage the built-in syslog and snmp trap server.

You could use syslog to accomplish this.  Whenever a configuration change takes place it can log that to syslog and you can configure Orion to pick up on key words in Syslog messages to trigger an alert.

I don't have it but this almost sounds like something Cirrus is designed to monitor. The next iteration of Cirrus will be known as Orion Network Configuration Manager which is supposed to integrate nicely with Orion.
