Change telnet hyperlink

I've recently just setup our Orion 7.8 SLX server and really haven't gotten into the interface customization. The immediate problem I have is that the telnet link on the node detail page goes to telnet:x.x.x.x but I need it to link to telnet://x.x.x.x instead.

I'm no ASP whiz so can anybody give me the quick and dirty way (if it exists) to modify this link?

Also, I would REALLY like some reference or docs on modifying this stuff. A quick breeze through the admin guide didn't give me much. Anything else I can check out?

Nice to see another groupstudy person over here. I posted about changing it to ssh, but didn't get much of a reply (just a hack which broke other things). What I ended up doing was modifying SWToolset.MenuOptions and adding another link. You need to have the EE Toolset installed on the workstation though. Most of the ASP files are encrypted, so theres only certain things we can modify. Network_Guru is pretty high-speed on this, if he can help I'm sure he will post.

Just install the "Additional Resource" module from the Additional Componets Orion V7 area. It has the code you want:

Heh...been on GS (Pro and CCIE) now for seven years. I guess it's like a drug...just get addicted.

Saw your post on the SSH "hack" as you call it but didn't think I needed to go through what you did to get this done.

Did install the Additional Resources module and you are right, it does have a telnet link that works. However, I was hoping to modify the telnet link at the top, the one that looks like a "T".

We don't use Hyperterminal, we all use Secure CRT and honestly, there's no way in he!! we're going back!

Seriously, if you've never used SecureCRT then you don't know what you're missing. However, the "T" link won't work with SCT.

I was hoping there was just a single line in a script file somewhere I could just change the hyperlink but if there is, it sounds like it's gonna be a bear to find.

The Reg hack I provided will open SecurCRT or any program you want associated to telnet in your Web Browser.

(Of course you can install Putty to any directory & just change the directory accordingly in this Reg Hack).

This will work with the T icon at the top of the page, but only for telnet.
You would have to find another way to specify you want to SSH.
..... or create another Icon with an 'S' symmbol?

I got it working.

1. Install the "Additional Resource" module from the Additional Componets Orion V7 area. //per Don

2. Change the following in 01-AdvancedNodeDetails.Resource

Original:

3. Register ssh as a URL Protocol
(msdn.microsoft.com/.../appendix_a.asp)

Note that the batch file needs a little tweaking. Here is my file:

FOR /F "tokens=1-3 delims=/" %%a IN ("%~1") DO start securecrt.exe /ssh1 /l myusername "%%b"

The screen shots make it much easier to see what to edit.

BTW.
You can just copy the code in my post & paste it into a new file named "telnet4putty.reg".
I then store this file on our Network drive. Anyone that wants to use the telnet & ssh links in Orion can install putty & then merge the Reg setting into their PC by just clicking the "telnet4putty.reg" file.

The same can be done for your SecurCRT SSH install (rather than manually editing the registry on each PC).

For those modifying the SwToolset.MenuOptions file to customize your Orion/Toolset integration menu the file you will want to edit now is at:

<LocalApplicationData>\SolarWinds\ToolsetIntegrationTray\Menu.xml

Where <LocalApplicationData> = <ProfileFolder>\Local Settings\ Application Data

This is for the current method of Orion/Toolset integration which started with Toolset 10.6.
