Hey all,
First time Thwacker/NPM Migrater here. We currently have NPM 10.7 running on an old 2003 Server, and am trying to upgrade to NPM v12 on a new 2012 Server. We are leaving the SQL database in place, and just moving the program. I received the following instructions from Solarwinds
1. On Windows 2003 server, stop all Orion Services via Orion Service Manager.
2. Download NPM 10.7 and install it on the Windows 2012 server.
3. During the installation, when Configuration Wizard asks for SQL server and Orion database, point it to the SQL server running on Windows 2003 server.
4. Once Configuration Wizard is completed, access the Orion web console and move the nodes monitored to the updated polling engine which is the Windows 2012 server.
5. Deactivate the NPM License on the Windows 2003 server via SolarWinds License Manager.
6. Get the NPM License key on your SolarWinds customer portal.
7. Activate NPM on the Windows 2012 server via Solarwinds License Manager.
When installing 10.7 on the new server, it tells me that the database is already in use (Which I say yes to because it's a migration), and the next window tells me to "ensure the primary Orion server is updated first and all the services on the primary Orion are running before continuing". I am unsure what to do here since that is in contradiction to the instruction I received. So, when using the config wizard on the new server, should I have the services running or stopped on the old server???
Thank you! And again, first timer here, so if I need to post somewhere else or do something differently, please let me know!!
