Custom Pollers

Question

I am tried to setup a custom poller for cipSecTunIkeTunnelAlive or cipSecGlobalActiveTunnels on cisco routers. When I test the  exact OID I want to poll Orion returns "SNMP test failed!" "Error: A value was not returned". But if I do a Get Next Request it returns a value. Could someone please explain this to me.

I suspect that you are providing the object identifier for the object you require

eg for the system uptime you would enter 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3

However all oids require an "instance" in addition to the basic identifier. For scalar values (oids with only one answer like sysuptime) this identifier is 0. For tabular values (think ifinoctets) there is an instance for every interface so if the oid for ifinoctets is 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10 then the value for the first interface is actually in location 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.0

A get on 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3 will return an error because the location doesn't really exist

A getnext moves on to the next location with a stored value ie 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0

GetNext will walk the tree and find the next valid OID.  The test should tell you the OID of the value it is returning.
