Hi all. A network issue over the weekend affecting users was not spotted by NPM monitoring because the problem was only visible when the packet size exceeded a certain size. Small ICMP packets and light traffic would go through the problematic part of the network just fine, but once a heavy download or transfer was initiated it would crawl. After a while of troubleshooting it was found that changing the ICMP size using options on command line (using cisco extended ping or command prompt on windows) the problem was readily visible. That led to the question of why not set the Solarwinds ICMP packet size to a larger size to help get a jump on such problems in the future.
Looking through Thwack threads, I found a couple that point to the "Admin > Settings > Polling Settings" window and suggest writing more characters in the ICMP Data field. I tried this, however the field is limited to about 150 characters (it cuts off after that, not allowing any further input of aditional characters). The ICMP size that we want to go to is 1400. Is there some other way to do this, via Registry Keys or other, and what is the procedure (make the change, restart NPM or reload the box?)
Thanks for any help on this.
