Monitor Service

Hello to The Collective,

I'm a noob to the SolarWinds group and have been working with Orion 9.5 and I've been reading up on how to create basic and advance alerts. However, I'm stumpped on how to configured an alert to monitor a specific service to see if it is running or shut down and to email when said service is shut down. Any help is greatly apprecaited.

Go to Orion Server

1. Start>All Programs> Solarwinds Orion> Alerting, Reporting, and Mapping> Advanced Alert Manager

2. In Advanced Alert MAnager> You can select a default or sample alert from the list like " Alert me when an application goes down

What service did you mean? Windows Service? If it is, you should have Application Module installed

Yes, I have the Application Performance Monitor installed. Likewise, I created a template to monitor the service(s), and it all looks great. However, I'm stumpped on how to setup or create an alert to trigger when the service is identified as being down. Clear as mudd?

Neilmborilla, Thanks for the reply. Ok, so I guess the real magic trick to know is how to setup the Trigger Condition. I've copied the standard alert you pointed out "Alert Me When and Applciation Goes Down" and modified it in the trigger condition to:

Type of Property to Monitor: APM: Componet

Trigger Alert when all of the following apply

Node Status is not equal to Down

Application Status is equal to Down

Application Name is equal to "Test Template of Service I created to be Monitored"

I think I'm getting the swing of it, but when I try to run the test on this Alert agaist the Host, I get nothing. Should I have zigged where I should have zagged?

hello, I want to monitor a number of services as well i.e alert me if dns client service is stopped. but i got no idea on how to create the template, is it possible if you kindly post your template here? cheers
