Netware Volume space
jebarber
I am evaluating Orion. It is reporting the used space on all my netware volumes higher than they are. It is saying one of the volumes is using 106% of the total volume, clearly this is not the case. I assume it has something to do with the MIBs. From scanning the forums I see that orion doesn't support custom MIBs, which is kind of funny becuase when I called SolarWinds to inquire about this, I was told that it had nothing to do with their software and that I needed to get an updated MIB. What good does an updated MIB do me if I can't use it? Surely others are using Orion to monitor their NetWare volumes. Are they having this problem too?
If it matters they are all Netware 5.1 servers.

jebarber...any feedback from SW on this? We see the same issue with all our Novell servers (running 5.00.10). I posted this problem with SW but have not received any response as yet.

Nothing From SW. However I have discovered it indeed has nothing to do with SW. SW looks at the OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.23.2.28.2.14.1.4.# to get the amount of free space. I have looked at that OID with several other utilities and they all say the same thing. I tried to figure out if it was maybe the amount free if all files were uncompressed or if it was not showing purgable space or something. Nothing panned out. Everything I've looked at says this is the correct OID to be looking at. Now I am new to the whole SNMP thing, but it seems to me that this must be an OS issue. Searching the web, I haven't found anyone else with this issue, which suprises me.

ok, I take it back. After further investigation, it does appear that it is not including the purgable space. OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.23.2.28.2.14.1.4.# is free space and OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.23.2.28.2.14.1.5.# is freeable (purgable) space. Now it seems to me that this would be back to being a SW issue. SW should be adding the two values together to calculate total free space, right? Is there anyway to do this myself?
