Moving NPM 8.5.1 to a New Server to Upgrade

Hi, I'm working with a customer to migrate their NPM to a newer server in preparation for an upgrade to the latest NPM.

They currently have Orion NPM version 8.5.1, and a separate server containing SQL 2000 Standard Edtion Server contains the NetPerfMon database.

I had my DBA copy the NetPerfMon database from the current production database server to the new database server. I installed NPM version 8.5.1 thanks to assistance from customer service. I ran the configuration wizard and connected to the NetPerfMon database on the new server with no issues. However, when I open the System Manager, there no nodes in the list. Did I miss a step?

There are a number of reasons for why this might occur. To assist in the upgrade process, we have developed a document with specific instructions for upgrading an installation of Orion NPM with modules. You can find this document in your customer portal, as shown in the following procedure.

To view the Orion upgrade documentation:

Log in to your SolarWinds Customer Portal.
Click License Management in the Customer Portal menu on the left.
Below the heading of any Orion NPM or Orion module license list, click Upgrade Instructions.
Save the compressed OrionNPMModules.zip file to an appropriate location.
Extract all compressed files to an appropriate location.
In the extracted OrionNPMModules folder, open Start_Here.pdf.
Note: The file readme.pdf provides additional instructions for navigating the Orion NPM + Modules Upgrade document.
Follow the flowchart to acquire required installers and view upgrade instructions specific to your type of Orion installation.

It's not so much the upgrade that I'm having problems with. It is in duplicating the current version (8.5.1) from our production application server to the future application server, and the duplication of the NetPerfMon (for NMP 8.5.1) from our production SQL server to the future SQL server.

I had a new server built and had Windows 2003 and MS SQL 2007 server (in 2005 compatibility mode) installed.
I had the NetPerfMon (for NMP ver 8.5.1) database copied from the old database server to the new database server.
I had a new application server built and had Windows 2003 installed.
I acquired NPM version 8.5.1 and a license key from Solarwinds customer service.
I installed NPM version 8.5.1 on the new application server.
I ran the configuration wizard, and pointed it to the NEW server that contained the copy of NetPerfMon. I selected windows authentication for SQL server access.
I selected use an existing database, and selected the copy of NetPerfMon (on the new SQL server). I selected to create a new SQL user for authentication for NetPerfMon database.
There were no errors or warnings. However, after I opened System Manager, and selected the new application server when prompted. However, the node list is empty.
I went to the new SQL server, opened NetPerfMon, and displayed the contents of the hosts table. All of my data is there.

So I'm not sure what the deal is. I've upgraded several Solarwinds apps for other customers in the past (I am a VAR). I've re-ran the configuration wizard on corrupt system for other customers in the past. However, this is the first time I am trying to copy an existing (and older) implementation to a new server, so I need some guidance, please.

I appreciate any advice. :)

It does seem like it should work. Without more data, it's hard to know what we can say. It's time for a Support ticket, I think.
