Alert triggering time for "Node Reboot"

Hi,

I have enabled "Node Rebooted" alert category in my environment, to capture rebooting node other than "Node down" alert category.

In condition, i can see

Evaluation Frequency of Alert - 1 min.

and Standard polling time we are following "2" min for all the nodes.

Evaluation Frequency of Alert is same like polling time?...if it is different meant please explain it.

and when will we get alert for "node rebooted" option. (in min). in this condition.

Polling Time = How often SolarWinds goes to the device for information (ICMP Status, SNMP/WMI Statistics) and then stores that information into the database.

Alert Frequency = How often the SolarWinds Alerting service checks the database for the specific trigger conditions defined in your alert.

Your example based on Default Polling would mean that the Up/Down status is collected every 120 Seconds (2 Minutes). However, the Node Reboot is an SNMP statistical detail, and would only be collected every 10 minutes by default.

So to answer your question how long would it take to get an alert about a "Node Rebooted" - Depending on where the system was in its polling cycle anything from 2-11 minutes approx.

Any clue, if we reduce the statistic collection time then will it help in getting the alert sooner?

Yes if you reduce the polling rate from the default 10 minutes then you would collect the information more frequently, and have that information quicker. Just be aware that adjusting the polling interval can have an impact on system performance and poller load. So try changing in small batches of priority devices first to see the impact it has on your polling engine(s).

if a device went down and back to up within 4 minutes.

Now the SNMP Agent ready to send Node rebooted time to solarwinds console, then solarwinds will trap the alert based on SNMP statistical time ( 4+6=10 mins).

But we couldn't get alert or mail in this category, only event captured.

Correct me if i wrong, SNMP statistical collection time (10 min) should be less compare to rebooted time (4 min) to get an alert trap and mail trigger.
