Licensing

Hi all,

I have a query regarding licensing.

We have a client who is running older versions of Solarwinds products, we want to update these products, however due to the age of the system they are on, straight upgrading is causing us issue.

As such we have setup a new server and have already installed the Solarwinds applications on the server, however the trial licenses have expired, so I was wondering if it is possible to transfer the licenses from the old platform to the new one, without effecting the old one?

I believe I have done this in the past and was told that it would be fine because the new Solarwinds applications are on a newer software set.

Is anyone able to confirm whether this is the case or not?

Hello,

could you send us product names and their versions?

In general you can't move your license from one server to another one without impacting your origin (that would mean you could use one license for two product instances). You can park your license on the origin server and activate it again on the new destination. Your support will be able to help you with that.

Hi,

The platform is running Orion Network Performance Monitor 9.5.1 so it is quite out of date.

If the new server is also running 9.5.1, the best option would be to create a support case to get a temporary license then proceed further with the upgrade on that server. 9.5.1 used a different licensing code than the latest releases. However, if the new server is running a newer version, 10.1 or later, then you can simply use the activation key that should already be in the customer portal for you to use.

However i need to know whether this will cause issues with the current (old) platform becoming unlicensed.
