Orion NPM Pings different to Actual Pings

Hi,

We're using Orion NPM and the pings and packet loss it displays for our devices is no where near real.  For example if I do a poll on it, it may report 600MS replies but in reality when I do it from the PC or Server it replies in 14MS.

We have around 150 devices on there.  It used to be fine but it seems to be very slow nowadays.  It's picking up Packet Loss internally as well.  I've checked the NIC's but they seem fine.  It's running on Windows 2003 R2 as well if that helps.

Any ideas on what to check?  Settings change?

Yes the data portion of the packet that is sent out is different than the ping that is sent out from the command line. To change it go to the System Manager > File > Network Performance Monitor Settings > Network tab. One of the top options is "Data Portion of ICMP packet" and by default its over 60 bytes. If you are seeing a high response time then remove most of the data portion to more accurate results.
