Circuit lines on map not showing status

I've never been able to get the lines (representing circuits)on my map drawings to change color like the icons do (such as green to red). The tutorial just says it will turn red to indicate a down status. I've never seen a red link and I have had devices go down. Can anyone help?

From within Map Maker have you assigned the line to represent an interface on a device? Right-click etc... it doesn't do this for you.
