FastEthernet0/0 is in an Unknown state??

Hi all,

I am new to Orion and wondering if anyone can help me with this anomoly I am seeing. Please keep in mind I have just started at this company and do not agree with the way things have been previously run or setup, so thats why somethings may appear strange.

I have a router with multiple IP addresses assigned to the FastEthernet0/0 interface as shown below.

interface FastEthernet0/0
description LAN -- FastEthernet0/0
ip address 172.19.223.241 255.255.0.0 secondary
ip address 10.19.223.241 255.255.0.0 secondary
ip address 172.19.223.246 255.255.0.0

The node as entered into Orion is using the secondary IP address of 172.19.223.241

Now when this node appears in Orion, everything appears to work and be listed correctly EXCEPT the node status. It always appears with the following message

Node status is Up
'FastEthernet0/0 · LAN -- FastEthernet0/0' is in an Unknown state.

Now I can positively verify that this interface is up as its the only interface on this router which isn't shutdown.

If someone could offer me any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. I would like to have all these status messages cleared.

We are currently using Network Performance Monitor Version 7.8.55

Shot in the dark...maybe due to

2 of those addresses being in the same subnet? Try modeling the device based off the 10.19 addy.

Try this ... right-click on the Node within the System Manager and select "List resources ...".
Ensure that the "FastEthernet0/0" is selected. If it is not, select it. You may then have two copies of it.
Right-click and delete the one in the unknown status.

It that does not take care of it, you may need to delete it and re-add it.
Sounds like it has become unattached to the actual interface on the router.

Might I suggest you add a loopback interface to the router & monitor that IP instead?
That is the standard method used to monitor routers.
