secondary polling engine

Hi all,
When I use a secondary polling engine is it necessary that the ip address of the Primary Polling Engine, shown in system manager, is the same used to connect to the secondary?
Can this be the cause i can't connect trought system manager to the secondary polling engine if i'm logged on the primary?
