Hello,
yesterday I installed a SW NPM Demo at a customers place.
Everything fine, was demonstrating SW Orions capabilities, with the foundry L3 Cores and some Access-Switches in Monitoring.... and then: ALERT!
The administrators i was working with were looking in the log of the foundry Core-Switches and found in the log a steady changing in STP from one way to the other.
The asked me to stop the polling engine and then the effect diappears.
I restarted 15 min later the polling engine and 5 min later the whole thing began again.
I took the cores out of the monitoring and everything was fine.
The people told me, that they have had similar effect before, when they tested other SNMP-based monitoring software.....
Has someone similar experiences?
.....
Another customer, about 9 month ago:
Heavy problems in campus network connectivity, DNS not working properly, unexplainable latencies and so on.
I proposed SW ORION to use for problem determination. The local admin forbid this, when he gots to know that ICMP/SNMP is used while discovery: "We have had another tool which does it this way, there have been several servers and devices dysfunctional after that..."
I did not give much on it, that time.
But yesterday....
Post here, if You have had similar experiences or better you have a clue what the reason could be.
Have a nice weekend,
Leo
