Live graphing/logging of packet loss and latency for endpoints

We're dealing with a few sites that have had a fair amount of packet loss and latency.

We know generally why but would like to see it graphed out throughout the day. We have a couple of endpoints we can use as ping trackers, etc. I know I can see some of these stats on the interface details, but I'm not sure how to get a clear picture of it all.

Should we aggrigate those in a new dashboard?

Do any of you have a similar requirement? If so, how do you handle it?

Looking for ideas.

I'd almost certainly build a perfstack dashboard for them and add that to a summary view. Once you save any perfstack then you can add it as a widget to any views, the resource will just have the same name as whatever you saved the perfstack as. Then you can click into it and turn on the real time polling for those interfaces when you are troubleshooting an issue.

I like the suggestions from mesverrum. He's on the right track for you.

Some other ideas we use:

I have a PC devoted to running just the Engineer's Tool Set suite, and specific/special problem devices get their own monitoring gauge. I don't view the monitoring gauge output, but I DO set the Tool to provide the historical graph, and then configure it to monitor every ten or fifteen seconds. It provides a much more accurate and nearly-real-time view of a device's throughput.
Better still: set up NPM's NetPath services for your suspect devices. Ensure the appropriate firewall ports are open for it to get to those devices (if a firewall exists between your poller and the device). Now you'll not only see latency changes, but also outages and changes in path hops. NetPath rocks mightily for discovering changes in latency or throughput--especially if the problem happens to be with an intermediate provider between two hops. Last Mile Providers are one thing, but the companies with whom they contract to get to your main WAN service provider are another. Any hop can cause problems if it's not fast and reliable, and I've solved several confounding issues with NetPath by tracking the changes in paths and showing the latency going crazy between hops at certain times of the day. In some cases those intermediary providers contracted for bandwidth without guaranteeing it, and when their oversubscription results in congestion, our customers were negatively affected. NetPath enabled me to know the exact paths and hops that were problematic and inconsistent. It let our WSPs duke it out with the intermediary providers, and resulted in better service or our moving to other WSP's. That gets their attention when we affect their income.

Yeah, I've setup a NetPath service to an temp sensor in the IDF, I may check into the PC idea, that sounds pretty good too.
