Havent received any down alerts/emails for three weeks!!!

While I do a services config, has anyone ever received this? It's just for down alerts. I haven't messed about with any of the config, and I have just realised we haven't received any kind of node down/restart for the last three weeks.

I have nodes down...

But no alerts that they have gone down.

Here's a email that we should receive..

That can't be healthy. I'll update everyone when the config has finished.

I would check the ActionsExecution.log and ActionsExecutionAlert.log and see if there any hints they are located in the path below.

C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion

Oddly, as I was doing some investigation - the following was come up:

Here's the hunt emails, did a search for node down...Nothing for days

This is what failed today, but no alert.

I need to wait for the SMTP log files, but chatting to networks, we received some traffic for emails from the soalrwinds server, but not anything regarding a node down for a while. When I check the SMTP logs tomorrow I can marry up to see if I can locate an email being sent.

You can also check the ones with log1 , log.2

It's worth checking your Alerts within Orion to make sure the alert event was actually triggered, then you know if your looking at an issue with your Trigger Action (Email) or the Alert Trigger Conditions itself.

The alerts were triggered, but we never got them.

Solarwinds have claimed that the link went down on the database side, I'm not sure that's true as we were still get every alert, save the node down/reset alerts.

And they were being triggered in the logs.

It may worth checking the AlertHistoryView table and apply an appropriate filter to check whether any records exist in the database. All alert triggers, resets and actions (including manual clearings etc. if memory serves right) are logged there.

Take a note of the AlertObjectID for the triggered alert in question and navigate to http://<YourOrionServer>/Orion/NetPerfMon/ActiveAlertDetails.aspx?NetObject=AAT:XYZ where XYZ is the AlertObjectID. That should give you a quick overview what happened to the alert trigger/reset actions on the 'History of this alert on this object' widget without any deep dives to the log files.

Where would that be located?

I checked C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion and couldn't find that folder.

That is a table (view actually) on the SQL backend. You can have a look by firing up the 'Database Manager' from the Start menu in your application Server. Just click on the 'add default server' and browse your way through the database.

I found it, it's part of the database.

I've had this happen to me a couple of times and have resolved it by cycling the services under Orion Service Manager (I did a full cycle of all services, although I suspect you can probably just need to cycle the Alerting services). I haven't had time to dig into what caused the issue in my environment, however I will update here if I do.
