Remote Admin Package?

The pricing page for Orion shows a Remote Admin Package, but I can't find any other information about it. Do any of you know more about this? Where on the Solarwinds site can I find out more about it?

One can use Remote Desktop(RDP) to access the server in which Sys Mgr is located but there are resolution problems when using maps. It is suggested that PC Anywhere be used as it utilizes higher than 8bit color. Or You can buy the Remote Admin Package. Either way to get full functionality you have to buy something. Before using PCAnywhere, check with Support for full compatability.

I use VNC for the initial creation of any maps. Subsequent saves of the map files after that through RDP work just fine. I use RDP for most modifications of the maps because VNC is sloooow.

So, that map creation utility isn't web-based? I was under the impression that all of NPM was web-based, but it sounds like map creation must be done at the console, or through remote console access via VNC or something like that. Is that right? Are there any other parts of NPM that are not web-based?

Adding, deleting and modifying nodes/interfaces/resources is not Web based, neither is the configuration on the alerting engine. All map related tasks are console as well. Database management and maintenance, backup, syslog alert configuration, and Network Discovery are also not web based. In all much of the product is console driven. The web interface really is "view only" but I think that is changing. At least I hope it is. Having all the functions of System manager available via the webui would be huge.

Ugh. That's not good news. For some reason, I was under the impression that most of NPM was web-based. I try to minimize having to use remote console access products on Windows devices. It's slow and painful, and only one user at a time can be accessing it unless you use something like VNC, which is even slower.

Then again, there probably would only be one or two people designated as NPM administrators, so perhaps this wouldn't be too big of an issue.

Windows 2003 Server allows 2 simultaneous RDP sessions as well as one more to the console.
So you could have 3 NPM's in at one time.

I've found RDP to be far superior to any other remote control package out there.
It is just as responsive as being right on the console, even form across the country.

You are looking for the Remote Admin Package.
My understanding is that it is an Orion system without the Poller and web server. In the process of purchasing. will let you know when it arrives.

Are there any plans to move to an entirely web-based interface? One of the reasons I was drawn to NPM was that I thought it was entirely web-based. My company uses an SSL VPN remote access system for access to our network from home, and I'd love to be able to have full functionality of this sort of application through the web.

Does anyone know if the Solarwinds people are considering moving in that direction?
