Poll for BGP status

I'm looking for a way to have the Network Performance Monitor poll certain interfaces for BGP status.
Has anybody done this? How is it setup?
I'm running 7.8.4 Monitor and I am evaulating Alert Manager 8.1.15
We have many interfaces that are BGP peers and when that Peering breaks the interface status does not change so we get no alert. Currently we use syslog to generate the bgp alert, but I would like to use the new Alert Manager so we can set time thresholds before alerting.

You would need custom MIB monitoring, which Orion does not yet have. I've heard that it might be coming in v8, but who knows when that will be available. This is a perfect example of why we need custom MIB monitoring! Orion is a very good product but it has a few holes, and custom MIB monitoring is a big one. I'm very glad to know that they're working on adding it soon.
