Slow performance from NPM GUI

Hi,

We run Orion NPM on a windows 2003 x64 (Virtual Machine) which has the following specs:

16 x 2.9Ghz CPU

12GB RAM

The SQL DB is hosted on a dedicated SQL server, not the solarwinds box.

Here are some more details from NPM

Network Elements	8038
Nodes	1770
Interfaces	6040

Alerts	1272
Events	109067
Pollers	15554
Polling Engines	1

The web GUI is generally very very slow. It takes about 2 to 3 minutes to logon and just general browsing is slow and painfull.

We also run NetFlow and NCM on the same box...

We have been told by the vendor who implemented solarwinds that we need more polling engines as there is an 8000 element maxc per polling engine. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

Is there anything we could do to make the server more responcive? Running perfmon on the server shows that there really isn't to much going on, but for some reason its very slow.t

I am also having the same problem, especially when using the NTA module. The graphs are always on loading for few minutes before it is loaded and in some cases the graph won't load finish at all and stuck at loading forever.

SolarWinds is running on HP ProLiant DL160 G6 with Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5680 @ 3.33GHz 3.33GHz, 4gb RAM and Twin 300GB running on Raid 1+0. SQL server is on a seperate machine.

The SQL server is using the same hardware as the SolarWinds server.

Hopefully this can be resolved. My clients are getting restless regarding this.

Most of the time, the bottleneck is at the DB.
