Cisco Wireless Lan Controller

Hi there -- can anyone confirm if Orion NPM (no wireless module) supports "simple" SNMP monitoring of interfaces etc.? I see from other threads that there is discussion around using custom pollers to gather various information about lightweight APs but I am not interested in that (at this point.)

So what are you interested in gathering from the controller? Just basic info on the physical interfaces?

It would be really nice to provide a similar dashboard that the Cisco Wireless Controller Management software has.

Yes -- physical interface info, CPU and reachability. Had trouble adding in a WLC and wasn't clear if it was supported. Eventually will try and use custom pollers to pull stats off of our Wireless Control System.

Controllers and Thin AP's are not currently supported in the Wireless Module, we will be adding Controller and Thin AP support in the next release

Cisco strongly recommends you do not poll your WLC SNMP with anything other than WCS. It may cause unexpected problems.

You have a link for this? It's SNMP not sure why that would cause any problems.

We have the wireless module but it is broken. We use all Cisco gear. Any APs we add just show up as regular nodes and you can get all the basic stuff from them with snmp (CPU, memory, interface details like TX/RX, IP info, IOS version etc etc) just like you can from a Cisco switch or router. We also have Cisco's WLSE or Wireless LAN Solution Engine and can poll it with snmp and get the same basic stuff you would get with a linux box.
