Bandwidth on ATM interface incorrect

Hi All, n00b here so go easy...

We have SolarWinds NetPerfMon which has been in place for a while. Having just upgraded the DSL connection one of our monitored nodes, I noticed that the bandwidth increase on the ATM0 is not showing in Solar Winds. The bandwidth has gone from 2meg down, 256k up; to 13meg down & 512k up.

I have looked at the interface settings and can see that a custom value has been set (2meg/256k); however when I untick this custom value & let the software poll for the correct value, the interface shows at 512k up & down. There is no QoS policy on the router set, or any lockdowns. I have also noticed that all of our other sites (literally hundreds) have their value input manually!! The guy who set this up has since left; however we can not work out why the bandwidth would come back incorrect?

Any suggestions are more than welcome

Are there any bandwidth statements on the interfaces? We had cases where NPM was retrieving the speed of the Frame Relay interfaces based on this value instead of the physical interface. NPM will use the value of the ifSpeed OID of the ifTable on the device for the interface speed.

Has nobody here come across this before? I can't understand why, when polled, the bandwidth results returned are incorrect? I'm guessing that that the returned values are that calculated by NPM, rather than actual connected value (i.e. that displayed under the "show dsl int atm0")??? If anybody has any ideas & maybe needs a little more info from me please just ask

Hi Andy,

We poll the ifSpeed OID to bring back interface bandwidth. We have two KBs you may find of interest on this problem. The first explains why this value is wrong,

We also have a KB which details how we calculate the interface bandwidth,

Unfortunately this all means that the interfaces you mention will need to be set with a custom bandwidth to correct the values.
