installing Additional polling engine in HA Environment

Hi,

We have solarwinds HA Environment and looking to have an additional polling engine,

Could somebody please advise what would be the best way, it can be done.

if there is a documentation we can follow to install it, will be greatly appreciated.

Having HA does not impact the APE installation, it should be the same as normal, no need to worry about vip's or dns names because solarwinds will be using rabbitmq to communicate changes on the active/failover status directly to all the APE's.

Thanks for replying and documentation,

I want a bit more clarification and recommendation about it and please advise me on he following points and please correct me if I am wrong as I would like to configure and optimize my existing environment as much as I can.

The HA environment we have is "High Availability - Backup Server for Main Server Protection"

so if I install Additional polling Engine on another server, this APE will be standalone and won't be a Highly Available, So anything APE polls will be a single point of failure,

Depending how you quantify failure. For example I don't generally bother to do HA on APE's because I wrote a set of scripts I like with logic that will move all nodes off a poller if it stops working and I just shuffle them to a different polling engine that's still operational.

As long as you have n+1 spare capacity then losing a poller just means those nodes need to be moved.

I find that's a much more efficient and simple to manage scenario for large clients than standing up a dozen HA pairs and having them sit idle. Through scripting I effectively can give myself active/active polling redundancy instead of just active/passive servers. Also the 2018 and 2019.2 releases burned me a few times with big clients so I have been reluctant to go back to using HA. My contacts tell me that those problems seem to have been addressed in 2019.4, but I am in no rush to risk it again.
