Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
High Page Fault Count on NetPerfMonService
pmartrvr
Recently installed two Orion SLX pollers on identical machines. Both are dual 3 GHz processor boxes with 2GB of RAM on each. One server is also running SQL Server standard edition.
For some reason, the NetPerfMonService is racking up page faults at a rate of about 2,000,000 per hour. Can someone explain why it would do this when the machine shows an abundance of RAM available?
Also, and possibly related, the System Manager on both of these servers hangs after a short period of time. If I try and open the system manager, it shows that the last database sync was at least two hours ago in the poller selection screen.
The two pollers are load balanced with the Node/Interface/Volume counts as 81/630/34 and 69/542/31. Both pollers are set at 100 polls per second maximum.
Thanks!

I don't know what your polling interval is, but 100 polls per second for that number of elements sounds way too high. I wouldn't poll anything at a rate faster than 2 or 3 minutes. Download the PPS tuner from the website and follow its recommendation.
The box will choke if it gets overloaded, which will require a shutdown and restart of the monitor.
