Morning all, I've got a bit of an axe to grind but hopefully I'm not on my own here and we can get this picked up by the devs.
One of the reasons I originally selected Solarwinds' portfolio of management and monitoring products was the web front-end, making it easy for anyone with a browser to access the system. While I was hesitant about going with a product dependent on Windows in the back-end my users (mostly Mac OS X and Linux users) wouldn't have to see any of that.
However, over the last few months I've been finding more and more parts of the web UI that simply don't work unless you're running IE on a Windows machine. This (for me) means having to fire up a VMware Windows machine to do the work that I really should be able to do with Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc. It's not just NPM, either, we're currently trialling APM and I'm getting the same problems with some parts of the UI.
It doesn't explicitly state in the product documentation (anywhere that I can see, at least) that the Windows/Internet Explorer combination is a requirement for access to the system so this a challenge to the devs: do more testing with alternative browsers and make the whole thing work properly or take the easy way out and specify a reliance on IE. The choice is yours!
Anyways, here's what I'm currently having problems with. I'm using Safari 4.0.4 on Mac OS X 10.6.2. Please reply to this thread if there's anything else you've experienced, noting your browser and OS version.
- In NPM the 'All', 'None', 'All Active Interfaces', 'All Volumes' and 'All Interfaces' buttons at the top of the List Resources screen for nodes do nothing
- Manually selecting interfaces in List Resources doesn't work, either, as the changes are never saved when 'Submit' is clicked at the bottom of the page
- In APM on the Assigned Application Monitors page the 'Add Component Monitor' button does nothing
I realise that's only three items but they're three regularly performed tasks that are a real pain for me at the moment.
