High CPU Utilization of Profiler Agent on Unix database servers

Question

We are currently running version 4.12.4 of Profiler, and have deployed agents to a number of Windows and Unix (solaris) servers.  We have since experienced what amounts to CPU thrashing by the agent.

What is happening that this takes place?

What can we do to mediate the issue?

Is there a long term solution so that the agent remains as a "silent" partner on the unix servers?

Some issues that might affect the agents:

* Have you assigned work out to the agents, such as monitoring VMware or Arrays or File Analysis?  If you have assigned a lot of work to agent on a small server, you might see this.

* Do you have anti-virus doing on access scans on the agent directories?
