New SAM delpoyment

Good Morning Everyone,

Im new to Orion and SolarWinds. 

My team is being asked to setup a new instance of SAM in our environment, but there is another team that is already using the Orion platform for Network Monitoring.

My Question is can we setup our own instance of Orion and SAM or do we have to integrate into the existing Orion paltform? 

All servers will be in the same network and working within the same range of IPs and Subnets.

Morning - you can absolutely install SAM on the same server as the one with NPM and would recommend you do this in your instance. jsut down load the SAM installer from the customer portal. when you install that it will detect that you have NPM installed and will add sam to the same system.

Some precautions below with adding it to the existin set up:

You would need to also check that the current solarwinds db is speced for both platforms as well as the spec of the main application server. there is advice for this through the installation guide etc.

There are obviously questions about OS version and compatibility with the product, so assuming you have the latest installs of everything then it is very much possible. but you might struggle to put the newest version of SAM on a server 2008 server etc. 

As with everything i recommend doing this in a test isntance first (if possible), taking the usual precautions for rollback etc.
