How to monitor filesystem in NPM

Friends,

I have NPM 11.5.2 in my environment and we have lot of Citrix xenservers which I want monitor. I have setup monitoring for all these xenservers however for some reason, NPM is not monitoring mountpoints/filesystem under / partitions.

For example, I want /dev/sda1 to be monitored as it gets full quite frequently.

I don't see this when I do list resources or using net-snmp in Solarwinds console. Can someone help me please? I did check some other posts and understood that it can be done but don't know how.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Are you limiting snmp access to certain OID trees? If an SNMPwalk doesnt show the volumes either, than would be what i would check

Its been a while since i configured any *nix servers. In your snmpd.conf, i believe it is where you define the communities and ip/subnets that have access.

I think the line looks something like this:rocommunity communityname subnet

you can check if that information is being shared using SNMP. Just execute the tool snmpwalk.exe that you will find on the SolarWinds installation folder (normally c:\program files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion), complete with the details of that device (IP address and SNMP community string), and it will generate a file with all the info available using SNMP from that device.

Try to find the following OID on that file: 1.3.6.1.2.1.25.2.3.1.3 There you will see all the volumes that this device is sharing with you using SNMP. If the volume that you are looking for is not there, it would mean that device is not giving to you that information, at least using SNMP. I'm not sure if there is any internal configuration on that device that would allow you to get this info, but if you are using SNMPv2 (and not v3), there is nothing from a SNMP perspective that you could do I'm afraid.

However, you can use SolarWinds SAM to create a linux script that can give you that information, in case SNMP doesn't do it.
