Monitoring Workstations

We are in the process of adding workstations (approx 300) to Orion to monitor their CPU, Memory, etc.  Most of the machines never leave their desk, but a handful move from office to office and from wired to wireless.  This is causing us issues with Orion keeping the machines straight.  I have all of the workstations set as DynamicIP but the Caption, DNS and SysName are changing on a good many of the ones that move around.

i.e. Caption says bobsmachine, dns says bobsmachine.domain.com but Sysname says janesmachine

so in this scenario when looking at the node details, the ip address and System Name are correct but the name next to Node Details is wrong.

Is there any way to get around this from happening?

As far as I understand it, Caption is what Orion has stored as the name to display, DNS is what the ip address in Orion is resolving to, and System Name is what Orion sees as the name via SNMP when it does a rediscovery.

If System Name and DNS are different, your DNS server may just be slow to update.

You can also increase the rediscovery interval to keep System name up to date.
