Nodes with Problems - but not really a problem?

Hi,

Okay this is going to sound strange. We have basically Orion NPM monitoring our switches. When someone switches a PC off under nodes with problems this shows an issue:

One or more interfaces is in an unknown state or
FastEthernet0/10 is down

This isn't really a problem and if I go into the System Manager / Right Click / List Resources / Deselect All / Select All Active Interfaces tick CPU and Memory / Apply it then gets rid of the error and all is fine until the next day when the node may be switched back or another node switched off, etc.

What I basically want is unless there is a proper error this not to be shown.

Is there any way?

The latest version of Orion, 9.5 SP3 supports what they call "Unplugable Ports".

I have yet to upgrade, but my understanding is that you could tell orion that all your user ports are unplugable and then they wouldn't go into alarm because they are unplugged.

We monitor several thousand switches CPU/Mem/uplinks; the uplinks (connections to other switches or routers) and server connections; not PC connections

We did want to monitor the ports just incase there was a problem, see how much traffic they're generating (I/O of the interface) and for many other reasons. I just wondered if there was a better way. If there's not then I guess we will have to live with it but it would be nice if it didn't generate a fault when it's not really a fault.

Are you talking about email alerts being triggered on these events??

No.

Just that they trigger an alert on the console and are highlighted flashing under the 'Nodes with Problems' heading.

It's more for the execs and people passing by than us and it looks (to those people) that there are problems when really there is not.
