Folder monitoring with Orion

Hello -

Can anyone provide input on the following?

Is there a way that SolarWinds can monitor a given folder location and send out an alert on when new files/folders are added to it?
If SolarWinds cannot do it and we create an app that can, how could I integrate the app with SolarWinds and alerts?

If I'm correct, SAM offers file monitoring.

You are correct that this is SAM, there are a couple of built in components that might do what you need - File Exists or even the File Age monitor, and there are script monitors that allow you to create your customized monitors.

Yeah, typically I see people use that counter in association with folders that feed batch jobs. If the job fails then the files start piling up and you say something like "if this folder goes above 100 files then something is probably broken"

Thanks for the info. Got sidetracked with some other tasks but picking this back up now.

I'm looking at using the File Count Monitor in SAM to fulfill this request.

My question is looking at the settings for the Statistic Threshold, how do those work? The developer needs to get an alert if new files are added. So let's say we have a directory with 50 files in it and we add 10 files into the directory. Would my warning threshold be 50 and my critical be some previously determine max number of files we want in the directory? The logic isn't clicking with me.

Final follow up to this.

Testing the File Count monitor component looks like it's going to be the solution. My last question is if there is a way to monitor the creation/deletion of directories in SW? All of the file monitors I've seen need to specify a file when necessary. The only directory monitor I see monitors directory size.
