We are currently undertaking an OSS project and Solarwinds is on the cusp of a make or break scenario for enterprise level monitoring / tracking and provisioning.
One element that is required for the concept of an OSS to be successful is the ideal that it integrates. As it currently stands, all processes and procedures as it relates to the network layer, data capture and monitoring are manual processes. This of course leaves lots of gaps for human error such as delayed provisioning, data capture, data mismatches or incorrect data entry. Worst case is the complete lack of data entry.
My question is this: is there a support module for Solarwinds API's that is supported by Orion? If not, is there an ETA on the release of API's?
The main goal would be for data push and pulls from the system in an automated fashion in order to track, maintain and report on nodes, interfaces and inventory. This would also include information from other systems such as customers, contract information etc.
This is not to make Solarwinds into a business tool, but to make business information available to technicians who have access to Solarwinds. And vice versa. Making Solarwinds collected information available to other tools where it may be useful to that business unit, without exposing the entire Solarwinds portal to that user group. The base level of success is to have automated data synchronization in a scalable fashion.
