Node Names not changing in interface FullName

When I add a new node, add the interfaces I need monitored, then change the name to something more inventory friendly...the FullName (Interface alerts and Custom Editor) shows as original Hostname of device.

I created a custom field called HostName (or HName if using Netflow) and run a SQL script everynight to populate that...Basically it chops off the DNS part...See below

   WHEN (CharIndex ('.', Caption) > 0)
     THEN (CharIndex ('.', Caption)-1)
     ELSE (LEN(Caption))
   END ) )
   )
   ) )

This basically trims from the first '.' to the right (removing DNS part) or sets substring to the entire name if no '.'
Make sure your HName or HostName custom field is long enough to handle your naming convention.  I had to bump mine to 35.  FYI

On the maps i then use ${HName} or ${HostName} to show the friendly name, and use those field names in reports and anything else needed.
