WebConsole Map quality

Hello,

I'm running Version 9.1 SP4 from NPM and I'm not happy with the output quality of the map in WebConsole.

Let me explain what I did:
I create for each country a map where I put all resources used in this country on.

Then I had a vector based map where whole Europe is on. Where I put each country on.
This gives me a nice overview in what country is a problem.

I don't want to use the default LED as it is not good visible and on smaller countries I don't know where to place it.
Thats why I add custom graphics for each country in the shape of the country. Each country on the picture is its own shape.

So but now my problem. As you can see all pics are of a good quality above. But when the Map is displayed on the WebConsole:

The result is really bad. I think this can be changed easy by changing the compression of the output image.

I'm open for discussions and offer any help I can give.

Hi Marco,

It looks like you're using a JPEG? I fiddled around with this for awhile with my map, and ended up using a GIF. Maps don't encompass alot of different colors (usually) so the GIF size for mine ended up being around 40K. The quality is great. Your other option may be an uncompressed, or maybe 90% JPEG, but the file size will be much larger.

Hey Grantsewell,

all the pics are in vector (WMF) with no compression. And when you look at the Screenshot out of MapMaker all is fine. Only the WebConsole destroy ths good quality.

Ah touché, if I had read your post better I suppose I would have seen that In any case, I'm sure Map Maker is doing some kind of compression on the backend. Have you tried sizing the WMF's down to the exact space taken up in the web console? That helped me out as well.

The generated image is compressed jpeg. Map Maker does not provide setting a compression level for web console maps.

thats what I expected. Can it be changed or made dynamic for users to change it?

I expect there are many customers who want nice graphics on there map but can't do it.

We had the same problem for a long, long time. Turned out the solution was really quite simple. I had been logging into the console via RDP and set the resolution to full color, full resolution. The problem was the machine itself, ie: its hardware console, was set to a very low resolution.

Getting into the machine via ILO or by hooking up a monitor and setting the resolution/colors to maximum fixed all our problems completely.

It is not the qulity of the RDP session. Because I don't use RDP to connect to Orion. But thanks for your good input.

Hmm... I think you missed the point on that one, the quality of my RDP session had nothing to do with it beyond covering up the real culprit.

The real culprit was how the console or physical hardware was configured as if you were sitting in front of the server.

Now, since you aren't coming in via RDP might mean your sitting at the console, but I just wanted to make sure...

The new version of Map Maker will use the lowest compression level. There is no way you can change the compression level now.
