Doubt about Template / component monitors

Hi,

I need to monitor an hosting server with several services (FTP, HTTP, SMTP and so on).

I assume I can create a Template with such specific component monitors (FTP monitor, DNS Monitor TCP and UDP, ...).

Two questions: I one single service is down, I receive an alert as the entire node is "down". Isn't possible to receive alert about specific service?

The other question is: I would like to monitor rsync (873/TCP) too. I could create a "TCP port monitor", and configure TCP port to match 873.. 

This is okay, but it is not possible to ADD a component monitor named "Rsync monitor"? Just for a better view in component's list?

1) it should not alert that the node is down simply because one SAM monitor is down.  UNLESS you have turned on "Enhanced Node status" in polling settings and configured "Node Child Status Participation".

2) There are two schools of thought on alerting with SAM application monitors and components.

   a) Alert on the components, so you know the exact thing that goes down.

   b) Alert on the application monitor.  This is more complicated setup, and generally most of the time you end up with each application monitor having only one component.  ...BUT...  For the situation where you want to monitor multiple aspects of an application but only get one alert, then alerting on the application makes this possible.  You configure the application monitor FooApp to have multiple components, the FooService, the FooPort, and possibly the existence of a file use by Foo.  Now you get one alert letting you know that FooApp is having an issue instead of 3 alerts for the same problem...  Of course you could probably get the same results with some manual dependency mapping.

3) Once you assign the TCP port component to the template, then yes you can rename it to make more sense.  You can even rename it in the actual monitor once you have assigned it.
