Custom MIB Poller OID Length Limitation Woes
jedgerton
I have encountered an OID length limitation with the Custom MIB Poller creation system. Here are the steps I take to setup a custom MIB poller and the limitation I am running into.
1.) I open up Orion System Manager and then open up the Custom MIB Poller interface via File >> Custom MIB Poller
2.) I click on New
3.) I click on Browse
4.) I select the node
5.) I click on Browse again
6.) I paste the OID I want to query
7.) The interface takes a moment to process and cuts off part of the OID
8.) I paste the OID I want to query again, and this time the interface accepts it without further processing
9.) I test the OID with the SNMP GET function and see that a value is returned
10.) I select OK
11.) I select Next
12.) I select Keep real-time and historical stats and then select finish
This process has worked many times over. However, I have recently run into pollers that aren't displaying data. Going back and looking at the pollers that aren't displaying data I notice the OID is cutoff. The OID is cutoff at 250 characters. The OID I am attempting to use is 283 characters. Where is this limitation coming from and is there a workaround?
Here is the OID I am attempting to query on a Cisco 11000 series Content Switch.
1.3.6.1.4.1.2467.1.18.2.1.4.9.119.101.108.108.112.111.105.110.116.30.104.116.116.112.95.119.101.98.119.111.114.107.102.108.111.119.46.119.101.108.108.112.111.105.110.116.46.99.111.109.26.50.107.52.54.55.104.116.116.112.95.119.101.98.119.111.114.107.102.108.111.119.46.119.101.108.108
1.3.6.1.4.1.2467.1.18.2.1.4 is the MIB OID for a counter I need and the rest of the OID is the name of the content that the counter is for. All of the custom MIB pollers that are not returning data are cutting off the OID at 250 characters.
