Monitor Exchange Mailbox Objects

I need to create a monitor that can query a specific Exchange mailbox and return the ammount of ojects(emails) that are contained within that mailbox. The server I will be using this on is Server 2003 Standard x64 with Exchange 2007. I need this ability so I can make sure our Mail Archiving software is processing emails properly. It would be nice if this monitor works with Exchange 03 & 07.

Hi,

You will have to use a Windows Script Monitor to query the WMI Exchange_Mailbox class

which contains the TotalItems Property.

"The TotalItems property indicates the total number of messages in the mailbox."

 

I am not sure if it will work with Exchange 2007. Here is a sample of a script you could use. Feel free to improve it.

I did not test it as I cannot access an exchange server stats through WMI from here.

The script needs to get some parameters passed to work:

first argument is the computer name, second argument is the user name, third argument is the password, fourth argument is the mailbox name at the end of the LegacyDN.

You can use the ${IP}, ${USER}, ${PASSWORD} variables to pass the parameters.

If you run the script manually it should look like below:

C:\mailbox.vbs NodeName Domain\Administrator password actxpo

 

Once you modified the script to match your needs and that it works in command line, Login to the APM webconsole and create a new Windows Script Monitor in a new template.

Admin > APM Settings > Manage Application Monitor Templates

 

Create a new template and add a Windows Script Monitor.

Paste the script in the script body.

type the arguments in the Script Arguments fields.

You will have to create one monitor for each mailbox.

 

The script/procedure is not perfect but it shows you where to start from.
