How to add connection on in Failover manager correctly?

Hello.

I’m a bit confused about the way how to add connection in Failover manager.

Let say I’m starting manager on the primary server.

Which IP should I chose for connection?

Should it be Network Connection (LAN IP) or Channel IP (Primary or Secondary) ?

Should I configure Connection on the Secondary server also?

I mean in case of switchover I have to be able manage failover somehow.

Does this mean that I have to setup Failover manager on both servers , or configuration from primary will be replicated somehow to the secondary one?

In this configuration you can RDP to the passive cluster member through the active host using the channel IP address, effectively using the active member as a jump host. Alternatively you can add an additional network card in both the primary and secondary servers and RDP to the passive host through this tertiary channel.

Well Regarding OrionFailoverEngineInstallationGuide.pdf Add a New Connection The Add Connection feature in the SolarWinds Orion Failover Manager allows you to add a new pair connection to an existing Orion Failover Manager group. To add a new connection 1. In the navigation panel, select the Orion Failover Engine group to receive the new connection. 2. Select Add Connection from the File menu to invoke the Add Connection dialog. 3. Type the Host Name or IP address for the new connection into the text box 4. Select the Port Number (if different from the default value of 52267). So the quiestions is: "Host Name or IP address" - What exactly this mean? Own servers name or IP?

When creating a connection in the Failover Engine to manage FoE I use the loopback interface 127.0.0.1. If you need or want to see the status of FoE on the secondary server from the primary servers console then you can add a connection using the channel adapter IP address of the secondary server.

Why are you using loopback ip and not channel adapter IP? Could you briefly explain the reason?

Should I create connection to manage FoE on the secondary server or this does not make any sense?

I use and recommend the loopback interface because it's always there and always available. There's generally no firewall policies applied to loopback interfaces. There's really no wrong answer. I just happen to find that when connecting to the same server that FoE is installed on that the loopback interface is consistently reliable. Also, not needing to remember unique channel IP addresses is an added bonus.

I implemented FOE. You need to use Channel IP addresses to add connections in FOE manager.
