SQLSERVR.exe using too much RAM

Hi,

Here is my setup:

Web Server running Windows 2k3 SP2, NPM 9.5 SP5, NTM 3.5 SP2 andNCM 5.5.2 with 4GIG DDR3 RDIMM, 2x 80Gig HD 15KRPM RAID 1+0, HP DL360 G6.

SQL Server running Windows 2k8 Server Standard SP2 64bit, SQL Server Standard 2k8 SP 1 64bit, 14GIG DDR3 RDIMM, 2x 140Gig HD 15KRPM RAID 1+0, HP DL360 G6.

My SQL Server is slowly using alot of memory utilization sqlservr.eve = 7.8Gig at 61% and gradually increasing everyday.

Is there a way to tweak SQL server? With the setup I currently have on this server, we can only upgrade to the MAX of 32Gig of RAM and I think thats too much but the more sites I add running NTA the more it chews.

NTA chews too much RAM resource on SQL. I have already applied the KB on "How do I improve the performance of my Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (Orion NTA) installation"

My SQL Server is on a separate box and is only dedicated to SQL DB tasks.

Im using CBQOS but only on 16 nodes and 16 interfaces.

And yes, I have set the to capture only the Flows required to represent the "top talkers" on my network.

Hi,

Anyone having the same issue? Below are current polling numbers.

My spec is on my signature and out of the 32GIG RAM it already using 53% and rising everyday by 1-2%.

What is that 400MB limit? If I have for example 12GB RAM, then why should I limit that to so low? I think Orion won't ever use the rest of the memory on that kind of device assembly. Now I have 6GB of memory, and I've limited sql to use max 1,5GB and it seems to be ok (memory consumption actually goes higher than that, but stops before all the mem is used).

But what is the memory use proportion you recommend. How much mem should be allocated for SQL and how much for Orion? I'm going to add mem to my server so it will be 12GB in future. One thing I'm after with this act is to reduce HD swapping. I have SSD HD's (2x intel X25 Extreme in raid1) and SSD's have limited write times.

Tip: Notice that in 2008 R2 the default reading of memory limit SEEM to be given as bytes ("too big" number to be in megabytes) but actually it IS in megabytes (as told above) so 1500 is 1,5GB's.
