Hi Everybody,
I found some posts regarding "Remote Pollers" and "Distributed Monitoring Environment" but didn't find any article, whitepapes, etc. about it.
Are there some anywhere?
thx,
oliver
Thank you.
At first I have just some very general questions, that might be interesting for others too.
- are this the "Additional SLX Pollers" or something different?
- whats the purpose of these pollers? Just load balancing, or can I get different views of my network?
(eg. response time/availability EU->US will be different from US->US . But both are interesting to other admins)
- can I delegate rights for node administration?
thx
Oliver
The install files labeled "Pollers" are the remote pollers. The difference between them and the full product (IE SLX version) is that the pollers only SNMP/ICMP. The full version has the web site, map maker, report writer and the snmp/icmp polling engine included. So you'll see differences in prices.
The pollers can be used for different things really. You can spread out the polling load across several servers if you'd like. We use them becuase our networks are segmented in a way that 1 poller can't get to everything. So we place remote pollers around and they just need a SQL conenction to the DB server.
Each poller will only see nodes it's actually managing. So if you device X being polled on poller X then when you log into poller Y you will not see the nodes assigned to poller X....if that makes sense. You can delegate administration that way as well and just give certain access to that poller vs the others.Let me know if you need anything else.BB
Ok that was what I hoped :-)
But where/how do I get these pollers? Couldn't find it on the Website nor in installation Zip-File?
hi
I Couldn't find the Zip-File (remot poller) for installation. I have 1 NPM server and I want to run 4 remote pollers in other city.pleas help me.
You need to be licensed separately for the additional poller.
If you are licensed for the additional poller, you can see the option to download Orion Additional Polling Engine on customer portal's My Download page.
